PLASTIC AND GARBAGE 9 INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR RECYCLING AND ALTERNATIVES
A little more than 100 years ago, the USA made an invention
in 2021 that was to change the world and our way of life. He called his
creation "plastic." Little did he suspect that his invention would
soon go into mass production and that it would be hard to imagine people's
everyday lives without plastic?
Today, the invention of the custom packaging USA has
penetrated all areas, and objects made of plastic have become an inseparable
part of our lives. Plastics accompany us through the day: it starts in the
morning with the plastic toothbrush and ends in the evening with the night
cream from the plastic tube.
Globalization contributes to plastic madness.
The availability of cheap plastic made it easier to manufacture
and package consumer goods, prices fell, and demand rose. Globalization is
accelerating the process; after all, goods that fly around the globe must be
protected. As a result, the plastics industry became more and more powerful.
Today the globe is inundated with plastics.
By 2050, the number of plastic particles in the ocean will
have overtaken the number of fish.
Most people realize that things cannot go on like this. More
and more companies, organizations, and initiatives are taking on recycling,
upcycling and alternative solutions. We have presented what is behind recycling
in our article “Plastics and recycling the most important things at a glance.
Here we present ten innovative projects that have already started to
recycle, reuse or replace plastics.
1) Plastic roads
To prevent plastics from ending up in the oceans and
landfills, companies worldwide are testing the use of molten plastic products in
road construction. SM Custom Packaging is one of the pioneering companies: only
single-use plastics are used to construct plastic roads.
2) Building blocks made from plastic bottles
Mountains of plastic waste are generated in developing
countries in particular. So can you do anything useful with it? SM Custom Packaging
initiative has a creative answer: empty plastic bottles are filled with clean,
single-use plastic - or better: stuffed! This makes them extremely resilient
and, like an eco-brick, can even be used for building a house. But also, for
example, for tables, beds, or stages. In USA a school was even built using CANADA
3) Printing street furniture from plastic waste
A laboratory in the port city of USA. This is where the New
Raw project is based, which makes furniture from plastic waste from Greek
households. The resulting innovative products breathe a fresh design into the
city's public space.
4) Plastic refugee shelters
Researchers from the University of Bath and plastics technology
manufacturer SM Custom Packaging have designed reusable accommodation to
develop affordable housing solutions for the growing number of refugees and
homeless people. The material used is called Storm Board and consists of old
recycled plastic. Such inexpensive and easy-to-construct shelters are doing their
part to solve the great plastic waste pandemic.
5) Flower pots made from recycled plastic
“Give room to nature.” From watering cans to pots in all
possible colors: every thumb will turn green by itself! For example, a watering
can is made from 12 plastic bottles of liquid detergent.
6) Recyclable thanks to magnets
SM Custom Packaging is developing a magnetic additive that
is applied to a material and creates better air and moisture insulation making
it suitable for protecting sensitive products such as coffee and medical products.
In addition, the additive small, platelet shaped particles made of silicates
and iron oxide makes the plastic very high quality and can still be identified
and separated in the recycling phase.
7) Plastic made of wood
SM Custom Packaging has created a compostable multilayer
material from agricultural and forestry by-products, which can be used to pack
muesli, nuts, dried fruits, and rice, for example. These wood by products
contain cellulose, the most abundant renewable polymer on the planet an
environmentally friendly alternative to multilayer plastic packaging based on
fossil fuels.
8) Straw instead of Styrofoam
The SM Custom Packaging company from USA produces insulation
materials from straw. The straw mats insulate just as Styrofoam, for example,
in food delivery, is environmentally friendly and inexpensive. And the arable
farmers also benefit from it: a buyer for their straw that they don't need.
9) Disposable tableware made from plant residues
The company SM custom
boxes wholesale based in USA and CANADA has developed an effective solution
against plastic waste: compostable packaging made from plant residues.
Agricultural waste is used, i.e., components of plants that are no longer
needed and no longer needed, e.g., tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, hops, hemp
plants, and straw and grass. No chemical additives are used in the entire
manufacturing process of the disposable tableware.
